In this room, the sedimentary processes and basic concepts of palaeontology (fossils and fossilisation) are explained through interactive multimedia exhibits and a series of original finds. The importance of palaeontology from a scientific, historical and economic point of view is also illustrated. Different types of sedimentary rock, i.e. those in which fossils are typically found, are displayed. The exhibition continues with the presentation of the palaeontological collections in chronological order: it starts with the Palaeozoic (from about 542 to 251 million years ago) with finds from Italy, but not only: invertebrates (trilobites and nautiloids), vertebrates and fossil plants. In the centre of the room there are replicas and reconstructions of Precambrian and Cambrian organisms.
