The exhibits here are linked above all to the great European trade and scientific research explorations accomplished during the 19th and early 20th centuries. They come from Australia, Melanesia and Polynesia and belong to an ethnographic past, bearing witness to cultures that no longer exist today, or at any rate have undergone a significant transformation, often traumatic, as a result of contact with the western world. Notwithstanding the items of the Drusini Collection are craft objects dating from the 1980s and ‘90s, they stand nonetheless as a silent witness to the impressive and dramatic history of Easter Island, which is also told in a video.
