The big leatherback sea turtle — donated by Pope Clement XVII, and holotype of the species — stands out in the middle of the room, surrounded by frescoes inspired by the writings of Livy and Valerius Maximus. A video tells visitors about the life of Antonio Vallisneri junior — only son and namesake of Antonio senior — who following the death of his father donated his collection to the university, creating the initial core of the Museum.
