The key to the entire section lies in understanding the biocultural evolution that has characterised our species.<\/p>\n<p>The tour reveals <em>Homo sapiens\u2019<\/em> <strong>settlements <\/strong>on different continents, and the objects, peoples and cultures that produced them. In this journey through space and time, a different showcase colour in each room underlines the geographical shift undertaken by the visitor.<\/p>\n<p>The journey starts in <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/japan\/\"><strong>Japan<\/strong> <\/a>in the late 1800s\/early 1900s, where visitors can admire <strong>fine artefacts<\/strong> such as two <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/panels-haritsuzaiku\/\"><strong>elegant inlaid panels<\/strong><\/a>, beautiful <strong>kimonos, armours and weapons, model houses, and objects of daily and domestic life<\/strong>, such as precious<strong> lacquered tableware<\/strong>, <strong>ceramics<\/strong>, <strong>porcelain<\/strong> and teapots used for the famous <strong>Tea Ceremony<\/strong> (<em>Cha no yu<\/em>, &#8220;hot water for tea&#8221;), a slow and precise ritual carried out in semi-darkness, in a dimension suspended from everyday life, where the spirit can elevate itself.<\/p>\n<p>We then enter the turquoise blue of <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/oceania-2\/\"><strong>Oceania<\/strong><\/a>, an archipelago room where, among <strong>pirogues and showcases<\/strong>, we can explore the charm of this continent of islands and sea, through objects from Melanesia, Polynesia, Australia and New Guinea.<\/p>\n<p>There are large <strong>painted shields, <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/the-kit-of-the-australian-aboriginal-warrior\/\">Australian boomerangs and spear-throwers<\/a><\/strong> (used for hunting), <strong>wooden statues, masks, percussion instruments<\/strong>, items of clothing, accessories, weapons and armours.<\/p>\n<p>From Oceania we move on to <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/africa-2\/\"><strong>Africa<\/strong><\/a>, whose showcases tinted yellow like the sand of the Sahara flaunt <strong>weapons, everyday objects, work tools, medical instruments <\/strong>and<strong> sacred objects<\/strong> \u2013 first and foremost a precious <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/mashamboy-mask\/\"><strong>mashamboy mask<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The journey ends among the peoples and cultures of<a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/asia-2\/\"><strong> Asia<\/strong><\/a>: precious <strong>fabrics<\/strong>, clothes and wonderful <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/chinese-porcelain\/\"><strong>porcelain objects from China<\/strong><\/a>; <strong>sacred objects<\/strong>; an Indonesian &#8220;<strong>shadow theatre<\/strong>&#8220;; objects of <strong>daily life<\/strong> from India, Tibet and Nepal; <strong>daggers and swords<\/strong> from South-East Asia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":5824,"template":"","class_list":["post-4486","tema","type-tema","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.0 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Nature and cultures - Museum of Nature and Humankind - University of Padua<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"The splendid ethnographic collections illustrate how different peoples have adapted to their surrounding environments through culture.
