{"id":4478,"date":"2023-06-05T08:48:25","date_gmt":"2023-06-05T06:48:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/?post_type=tema&#038;p=4478"},"modified":"2024-03-15T11:05:21","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T10:05:21","slug":"from-africa-to-eurasia-the-great-mosaic-of-human-diversity","status":"publish","type":"tema","link":"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/tema\/from-africa-to-eurasia-the-great-mosaic-of-human-diversity\/","title":{"rendered":"From Africa to Eurasia: the great mosaic of human biodiversity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Geological era then gives way to the <strong>Anthropocene, the Age of Humankind<\/strong>, where visitors are <strong>immersed in the African landscape that gave our species our origin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>From those sunny lands, humans emerged in waves, first expanding into Eurasia some 120,000 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The first highly striking room, dedicated to these migrations \u201c<strong>Out of Africa<\/strong>\u201d, contains original and recreated versions of the most significant <strong>tombs<\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/al-khydais-site\/\"><strong>extraordinary Sudanese site of Al-Khiday<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another set of precious exhibits follows, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/mummy\/\"><strong>Ptolemaic mummy with sarcophagus<\/strong><\/a>. An <strong>advanced forensic and facial reconstruction analysis <\/strong>of the priest contained therein shows how different scientific disciplines can contribute to the interpretation of the history of such finds.<\/p>\n<p>The itinerary continues with a rich <strong>palethnology collection <\/strong>that offers a wide overview of the <strong>prehistory and protohistory of Europe and Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition includes<strong> lithic, ceramic, metallic, textile, wooden and biological remains<\/strong> from different areas of North-East Italy, illustrating the <strong>types of settlements<\/strong> that followed one another over time: the worlds of <strong>caves<\/strong>, overhanging rock shelters, water dwellings (in particular the evocative piles of the <a href=\"https:\/\/visitmnu.it\/en\/punto_di_interesse\/ledro-and-the-stilt-houses\"><strong>Ledro stilt house<\/strong><\/a>), <strong>\u2018castellieri\u2019<\/strong> (fortified protohistorical settlements) and <strong>early urban centres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The collection of <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/7NSwOEleAHk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>phrenological skulls<\/strong><\/a> and about seventy <strong>\u201cracial masks\u201d from the Cipriani collection<\/strong> are dedicated to the first steps (and missteps) taken by <strong>anthropological sciences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There are also various<strong> anthropometric tools<\/strong>, which tell us a bit about this historical phase of anthropology.
