Introduction<\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>It is <\/span>Homo sapiens<\/i><\/b>, our species, that takes centre stage in the Anthropology section: from its <\/span>origins<\/b> as a group of apes that adapted gradually to walking upright on two legs, to the earliest examples of tools made of <\/span>stone and metal<\/b>, and then the <\/span>long journey<\/b> that began in Africa and took humankind to all corners of the Earth.<\/span><\/p>\nSince the early 19th century<\/b>, the volume and the variety of the collections have steadily increased, along with the development of anthropological sciences in Padua. There are <\/span>more than 25,000 items<\/b> in the collections today, most of which catalogued.<\/span><\/p>\nThese include <\/span>important prehistoric human skeletal remains<\/b> and many specimens <\/span>of archaeological interest<\/b>, as well as <\/span>invaluable ethnographic artefacts<\/b> that are testament to the expressive richness of many <\/span>human cultures<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>From Africa to Eurasia: the great mosaic of human biodiversity<\/h2><\/div>From the Geological Time, we transition to the Time of Man, the Anthropocene: visitors find themselves immersed in the African landscape that witnessed our origin as a species. From those sun-baked lands, humans have repeatedly ventured out, expanding into Eurasia starting 120,000 years ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n \n Palethnology Collections <\/span>\n <\/div>\n \n \n The palethnology collections comprise some 13,000 items coming mostly from Bronze Age and Iron Age sites in the Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Emilia Romagna and Lombardy regions of Italy, and from other central, southern and island locations of the country.\nThe finds from the Friuli area are particularly significant and abundant in number.
